Camden County is comprised of 37 municipalities. It is a diverse county, both in terms of population, history, demographics and business opportunities. As of the 2000 Census, the population was 508,932. Its county seat is Camden. The county was founded in 1844 from parts of Gloucester County. It is part of the Delaware Valley region.
Camden County provides easy access to parks, seashores and relaxing beaches, business/financial centers, good schools and restaurants, major sporting events, music and the arts, plus an unlimited variety of shopping opportunities. It also hosts the New Jersey State Aquarium, Clementon Amusement Park and Garden State Discovery Museum. It's all here and accessible in a matter of minutes.

A great choice of good schools (public, private and parochial), extensive and varied sports programs and recreational opportunities for all ages and skill levels. Convenient to major transportation, including roads, trains, buses and airports, which provide easy access to Philadelphia and New York Metropolitan areas. People living in Camden County commute to work daily to Philadelphia and even New York City.
I
n 1926, President Calvin Coolidge dedicated the Delaware River Bridge, later renamed for Benjamin Franklin. It opened the way for commuters to work in Philadelphia and live in the Camden suburbs. A second bridge, the Walt Whitman, opened 31 years later, connecting Philadelphia and Gloucester City. In 1976, the Betsy Ross Bridge, linking Philadelphia and Pennsauken, opened to traffic.
These routes and the development of high-speed rail transportation between Camden and Philadelphia helped to push the county's population over the half-million mark. This, combined with a broad economic and industrial base, several centers for higher education, three major hospitals, and an excellent interstate road system and connections, offer a bright future for the county while "Making It Better, Together!"
