I have a Palm TX which I take everywhere with me (sometimes even to bed when I want to read an eBook, look up information in the extensive references I've have loaded on it's SD memory card, watch TV and movies or just surf the web).
One of the features that I desired, but was not built into the TX was the ability to record, store and playback audio. Since it has no built-in microphone nor comes with recording software, I thought that capability was out of reach. I was wrong.
I eventually discovered that the Palm TX (and T5) have the internal circuitry for recording and playing back sound. So all you need to do is add a microphone and the proper recording software and you're in business.
I have come across 3rd-party solutions that work very well and for minimal cost.
What worked for me was obtaining a small microphone ("Bud-Mic" from http://www.talestuff.com/, Cost: $25) that connects to the USB port of the TX, but leaves the charging port free so you can talk and record for as long as you desire and have enough memory. The microphone is very small and is relatively unobtrusive when plugged into the TX's USB port.
Now that you have the hardware, all you now need is the correct software and you are ready to go. There are several options, I will share two of them:
1. SoundRec- is a basic recording and playback software program that is simple to use, -- just install, make sure microphone is connected and begin. It has a simple/easy to use interface and works well, providing: Recording, Playing and Copying to Memory (as a WAV file). Although it is freeware, it is more than adequate for my needs to record voice messages to myself. I have also used it to record and save voice messages off of my phone message machine and to record portions of lectures or meeting conversations. Once saved as a WAV file, I can transfer to any PC or email as an attachment.
The latest version currently available is 1.07d (many sites only have the previous, though stable, 1.051 version available for download), which is difficult to locate if the developer's web site is down, which it is as of this writing. However, I was able to download both versions from MyTREO.net (note that you will need to first register, which is free) as the latest version also works with most TREOs.
2. Personal Recorder Pro - Cost: $25 - recording software that works with a variety of PALM OS devices including the TX and T5 (microphone required), as well and TREO and Centro smartphones.
The program can be purchased here.
While it has some inherent limitations, the Palm TX now does most everything I need a handheld to do at this point in time.

I will look into this for my Palm T|X. I normally use a digital voice recorder for taking notes, but it would be nice to be able to do that with my Palm.
